Fc Barcelona Shotstopper Signs for PSG
Arnau Tenas, a former goalie for FC Barcelona, has joined Paris Saint-Germain, the Ligue 1 powerhouse officially confirmed on Sunday.
The Catalan joined Barcelona when he was nine years old and worked his way up through their La Masia academy to Xavi Hernandez's senior squad.
However, his contract was allowed to expire this summer, which led him to explore free agency.
PSG released a statement on the development and announced sealing the shotstopper via their social media accounts.
The hiring of Arnau Tenas has been announced with excitement by Paris Saint-Germain. The 22-year-old goalkeeper has a contract with the club that runs through 2026, according to the email from the company, which is owned by Qatar.
Arnau Tenas joined FC Barcelona in 2010 to start his training there after being born in Vic in the Spanish province of Barcelona in May 2001.
"The talented goalkeeper has progressed through the ranks to become himself a member of the Barca reserve team, where he served as captain the previous season. He was frequently called up to the first team beginning in the 2020–2021 season, PSG continued.
Tenas' accomplishments, which include starting in goal for Spain's U19 Euros victory in 2019 and shining in the U21 Euros this summer, where his nation fell to England on penalties in the championship game, were highlighted by PSG.
Tenas added his voice to the conversation, stating that he was "extremely happy to join this great club and to be part of the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeping family."
"Very good goalkeepers have marked the history of PSG," Tenas continued, paying tribute to Sergio Rico, who was seriously injured in a horse-related accident in late May.
Tenas will try to eliminate Italy's Gianluigi Donnarumma from consideration under compatriot Luis Enrique after failing to unsettle Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena at Camp Nou and making only one La Liga outing for Blaugrana.
Tenas joined PSG at a time when Ousmane Dembele was linked with a move to Parc des Princes.
Earlier at the weekend, France's RMC Sport reported that the Parisian was ready to activate his €50 million ($55 million) release clause, which doubles on May 1. 8.
